Reading is central to our curriculum and our culture. We want every child to become a fluent, thoughtful reader who enjoys books and sees reading as a doorway to new ideas.

We teach reading through:

  • Whole‑class reading
  • VIPERS
  • Daily story time
  • Targeted phonics
  • Book talk and discussion
  • Exposure to high‑quality texts

We also nurture a love of reading through assemblies, clubs, themed days, and celebrations. As stated in our curriculum policy, “A love of reading is generated by a whole school approach and promotion of reading through book celebrations.”
