Learning Overviews

English

Biographies, letters, myths and rhyming couplets

We will be exploring, then writing our own, of each text type. We will also be reading Roman Tales: The Goose Guards by Terry Deary.

Maths:

Length and Perimeter, Fractions, Time, Mass and Capacity

This will include: measuring and
calculating perimeter; comparing and
ordering fractions; telling the time to the
minute and using am and pm; and
measuring and comparing mass and
capacity.

Science:

Light and Shadows, Plant Nutrition and Reproduction

In Term 5, the children will investigate light, dark, reflections and shadows. In Term 6, they will describe the parts of flowering plants and relate structure to function, including the roots and stem for transporting water, leaves for making food and the flower for reproduction.

DT:

Greenhouse

The children will design, make and
evaluate a mini greenhouse.

Computing:

Simulations, Graphing and Presenting

The children will: understand, explore and analyse a simulation; enter data into a graph; and create a PowerPoint including timings, animations, transitions and media.

RE:

Why do people pray?

The children will explore how and why
Christians and Hindus pray, considering
similarities and differences between each.

Art & Design:

Beautiful Botanicals, Mosaic Masters

Over the two terms, the children will create natural weavings, two-colour prints and detailed botanical paintings of fruit. They will also explore the colours, patterns and themes found in Roman mosaic, learning techniques to help them design and make a mosaic border tile.

History:

Emperors and Empires

This project teaches children about the
history and structure of ancient Rome and the Roman Empire, including a detailed exploration of the Romanisation of Britain.

PSHE:

Relationships, Changing Me

These topics involve considering how to
make and keep friendships and learning to understand and respect the changes they see in themselves and others.

Music:

Jazz and South American Music

The children will explore and perform both genres of music, using percussion
instruments in their South American music.

PE:

Swimming and Athletics (T5), Swimming and Cricket (T6)

The children will develop their coordination, control, balance and technique across each sport.
