English

We will be reading Who let the Gods Out? By Max Evans. It is based on Greek mythology, and follows the life of a young boy named Elliot who encounters demi-gods, as well as Zeus the God of lightning, and even the Queen of England! Elliot Hooper is a twelve-year-old boy who lives at Home Farm in Wiltshire. A magical world awaits us. We will explore the meaning of words, including figurative language and explore how the writer uses language, structure and presentation and how these contribute to meaning and effect. Our units of work will be linked to the main theme of ‘Ground-breaking Greeks’.

Maths

In maths this term we will add and subtract decimals with different numbers of decimal places. We will also compare and order negative numbers, measure and estimate the volume of different containers, revisit shape and look at statistics alongside position and direction.

Science

Human Reproduction and Ageing

In science, we will learn what life cycles are, order the stages of life cycles for different animal species and compare them. We will learn what mammals are, their life cycles and the five key mammalian characteristics. We will sort vertebrates, deciding whether or not they are mammals. We will learn about the stages and processes of the human life
cycle as well as human gestation from embryo to birth. We will investigate how humans develop from infant to adolescence. We will learn about the changes that happen during puberty and learn about the human reproductive system and sexual reproduction. We will learn about how humans change as they get older. We will investigate how ageing affects reaction times.

Architecture

We will be learning about the architecture of Ancient Greece and its influence on modern styles. We will learn how the design of a product has been influenced by the culture in which it was designed.

Art & Design

Artistic Expression

This project teaches children about the Expressionist art movement and the 'Father of Expressionism', Edvard Munch. They explore different ways to portray
feelings and emotions in art to create an imaginative self-portrait. They will be sketching using a range of drawing materials to record and portray their various expressions.

History / Geography

Ground-breaking Greeks

This project is the headline focus for our learning this term. We will learn about the developments and changes over six periods of ancient Greek history, focusing on the city state of Athens in the classical age,and exploring the lasting legacy of Ancient Greece.

We will be focusing our learning on the following: Significant periods of Greek history; The Minoan civilisation between c3000 BC and c1100 BC on the Greek island of Crete; Mycenaean civilisation betweenc1600 BC and c1100 BC on the Greek mainland; Family life and social class; democracy; architecture and
Alexander the Great.

RE

What does it mean to be a Muslim in Britain?

We will be developing our understanding of religious beliefs. Discovering why many people question ‘What does it mean to be a Muslim in Britain today?’

Music

Looping and remixing

We will learn how to perform a looped percussion rhythm, keeping in time with others. We will use loops to create a whole piece of music, ensuring that the
different aspects of music work together. We will also work at matching fragments of music with a consistent backbeat.

PSHE

Positive, healthy relationships

The children will discuss ideas around who they are as a person in terms of characteristics and personal qualities. They will develop an understanding of how to stay safe when using technology to communicate with friends and recognise when they might spend too much time using devices.

PE

Badminton and Athletics

We will be working on our overarm forehand, underarm backhand, overarm forehand, serve, rally, run and balance in badminton. In athletics we will be learning to pace, sprint, relay changeovers, jump, balance and run.

Computing

Online Safety

In computing this term we will be continuing to learn about how to stay safe online, with a particular focus at
how online bullying can occur and ways to prevent it.
