English

Freedom, by Catherine Johnson, tellsthe story of a slave boy Nat, shipped to England from a Jamaican plantation in 1783. His journey to London entails many harrowing discoveries, but also the kindness and generosity of strangers. This text will support our writing of non-chronological reports and persuasive writing.

Maths

We will consolidate our learning in maths through various projects and problem solving tasks. We will secure our understanding of each mathematical topic, including shape and position and direction.

Science

Circulatory System

This project teaches children about the
transport role of the human circulatory
system, its main parts and primary
functions. They learn about healthy
lifestyle choices and the effects of harmful substances on the body.

Text Adventures, Quizzing

This unit introduces text-based adventures allowing children the chance to edit an existing text adventure. Children will also be creating quizzes on various topics and for different audiences.

Is it better to express your religion in arts & architecture or in charity & generosity? What do religions say to us when life gets hard?

Art & Design

Trailblazers, Barrier Breakers

This project teaches children about
significant black artists and their work,
and provides opportunities to analyse and create artwork inspired by them.

History / Geography

The project of Maafa teaches children about Africa in the past and present, with a particular focus on Benin. It traces the development of the slave trade, explores Britain’s role in the transatlantic slave trade and the causes and consequences of the colonisation of Africa. Our Changing World unit revises the features of Earth, grid references, contour lines and map symbols. We learn about climate change and global trade.

PSHE

Relationships, Changing Me

We will look at mental health and how to
take care of our mental well-being. As
well as puberty in boys & girls.

Music

Baroque, Composing & Performing

We will learn about Baroque composers,
such as Bach, Handel & Vivaldi, and how
their music shaped this era. We will also
explore pop songs about new beginnings.
